Pad Gaprao
Seitan Stir-Fry
Here’s a simple recipe for Pad Gaprao (Holy Basil Stir-Fry) with seitan, a delicious Thai-inspired dish that’s savory, spicy, and full of flavor!
- 1 package of Franklin Farms Minced Seitan
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2-3 red chilies (adjust to spice preference), chopped
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1/2 cup Thai holy basil leaves (or regular basil if unavailable)
- tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp vegan oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp sugar (preferably palm sugar)
- 1 tbsp water
- Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, vegan oyster sauce, sugar, and water. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Set aside.
- Cook the Seitan: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the minced seitan and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- Stir-Fry Vegetables: In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add garlic, chilies, and onion, and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Add the red bell pepper and cook for another 2-3 minutes until tender-crisp.
- Combine: Add the cooked seitan back to the pan, then pour in the sauce mixture. Stir well to coat everything. Cook for another 2 minutes, letting the flavors combine.
- Add Basil: Turn off the heat, and stir in the holy basil leaves until they wilt and become fragrant.
- Serve: Serve the stir-fry over cooked rice if desired.
